Is anxiety taking over your life? Maybe your mind won’t slow down at night. Maybe your chest feels tight before a normal workday, or you’re exhausted from always being “on,” bracing for what might go wrong. If so, you’re not weak or broken, and you don’t have to keep white-knuckling your way through it.
Here’s something that may surprise you: anxiety is not your enemy.
Anxiety is trying to protect you
Anxiety is often a protective response, a part of you working overtime to keep you safe. It may have learned that vigilance, perfectionism, or people-pleasing were the best ways to get through earlier experiences. The problem isn’t that you have anxiety. It’s that your system may still be acting as if the danger never ended.
Fighting anxiety or trying to get rid of it often makes it louder. In therapy, we work on getting curious about it instead: where it’s coming from, what it’s trying to do for you, and how to relate to it differently.
My approach to anxiety therapy
I combine three perspectives in my work with anxiety:
Attachment-based: Our earliest relationships shape how safe we feel with ourselves and with others. We explore how your relationship patterns and sense of security connect to your anxiety.
Trauma-informed: Anxiety often has roots in past experiences, big or small. We move at your pace, prioritize safety and choice, and never push you to share more than you’re ready to.
Somatic: Anxiety lives in the body, not just in your thoughts. We build body awareness and practical tools to help your nervous system settle, so calm becomes something you can feel, not just think.
What anxiety therapy can look like
Together, we can work toward:
Understanding where your anxiety comes from and what it’s protecting
Calming your body when anxiety spikes
Loosening the grip of perfectionism, overthinking, and people-pleasing
Building a steadier sense of safety and self-trust
